There are plenty of ways you can reduce food waste. Not only does reducing your food waste help you make the most of your shop, it also is great for the environment. Each year in Australia, over 5 million tonnes of food end up in landfill.

Try these simple tips to help reduce your waste today:

  • Plan ahead. Making sure you plan your meals ahead of your shop can stop you from buying groceries you don’t need or won’t use in time. Good for the environment and your health!
  • Store your food correctly. Sometimes food can go ‘off’ ahead of time because it hasn’t been stored properly. Making sure you know how to store your food is a great way to get the most out of your ingredients.
  • Choose ‘ugly’ and ‘imperfect veg’ at supermarkets. Ugly and imperfect veg on the outside are often perfect inside. Choosing imperfect veg helps take more of the farmer’s crops, helps reduce food wastage, and most importantly can save you up to 50%
  • Roast your veg. Once your veg has begun to go soft, instead of throwing them away, roast them in the oven for a salad or addition to any meal
